  • How should I prepare for my free 15-minute consultation?

Make sure you are in a quiet place and ready during the scheduled time.  Bring a clear idea of your goals, your timeline, and any key documents you want to discuss. Read through our FAQ and other resources to ensure you have a solid understanding of the basics before we begin.

  • What makes Polished Legal different from other law firms?

We combine deep dental and healthcare experience with a clear, calm, supportive approach to keep you feeling informed and confident. Our specialized knowledge and strategic approach prevents common missteps, preserving your freedom to form, grow, and exit your practice your way.

  • What kinds of dentists do you work with?

We serve dentists and dental specialists (e.g., from orthodontists to oral surgeons)  at every stage — from associateships to starting your first practice to building a multi-location group. Our clients include general dentists, dental specialists, and  DSOs.

  • Do you only work with dentists?

No! We work with all types of healthcare professionals. While most of our clients are dentists, we’ve been helping doctors in all types of verticals with their business transactions since 2010. In addition to working with dentists, we assist optometrists, veterinarians, physicians, and MSOs.

  • What kinds of contracts do you draft or review?

We draft, review, and negotiate employment agreements, commercial lease agreements, including lease amendments, space sharing agreements, partnership and shareholder agreements, asset purchase agreements, stock purchase agreements, management and business support services agreements, and more.

  • Do you offer ongoing legal support for my practice?

Yes. We offer project-based and ongoing advisory services, so you can have strategic legal support as your practice grows and transitions.

  • How much do your services cost?

We offer straightforward, transparent pricing—flat fees for most projects and clear hourly rates for custom work. We provide cost-effective legal solutions and always discuss pricing upfront, so you can plan confidently.

  • Do you offer payment plans or flexible billing?

We try our best to accommodate our clients and not to lose clients based on fees. For larger transactions or engagements, we can offer staged billing or customized payment structures to fit your needs.

  • Where are you licensed to practice?

We are based in California, but our attorneys are licensed in multiple states and regularly work with clients across state lines, partnering with local counsel where needed.

  • Who will be working on my matter?

Levi Barlavi oversees each transaction, and our clients benefit from the expertise of our entire team, whose deep experience and attention to detail are an asset to every client. We’ll always make sure you feel supported.

Starting Your Practice Journey

  • How can Polished Legal help me start my own practice?

We guide you through the major legal contracts — entity formation, ownership structure, contracts, leases — so you can start strong and stay protected, and you grow and transition.

  • Can you help me purchase an existing practice?

Yes! We handle legal due diligence, purchase agreements, and contract negotiations to ensure you’re buying with eyes wide open — and that the transition is set up for success.

  • What if I’m already running a successful practice?

We help experienced owners with growth strategies, associate contracts and buy-ins, partnerships, practice expansions, and preparing for a future sale or exit, always with your long-term goals in mind.

Corporate Formation

  • What is included in your incorporation package?

Our package includes formation of your Professional Corporation (PC), registration with the state, EIN filing, bylaws, organizational minutes, stock issuance, and corporate book setup.

  • How long does the incorporation process take?

Typically 2–3 weeks, depending on state processing times. Expedited options may be available.

  • Can I list my PO Box as my business address?

No. The state requires a physical street address for corporate registration. You may use your office or a registered agent address.

  • What is a California Registered Agent and do I need one?

Yes. Every California corporation must designate a registered agent to receive legal documents.

Growing Your Practice

  • Can you help me structure a partnership or group practice?

Definitely. We create customized partnership and ownership structures to support growth and minimize future conflict.

  • Do you work with DSOs and MSOs?

Yes. We represent individual providers as well as DSOs (Dental Support Organizations) and MSOs (Management Services Organizations) in formation, deal structuring, and transactions.

Preparing to Sell or Exit

  • When should I start planning to sell my practice?

Ideally, at least two years before you want to exit. Early planning helps you maximize value and create a smoother transition.

  • Can you help me sell my practice to a DSO?

Absolutely. We negotiate DSO deals, review affiliation agreements, and protect your interests so you can sell on your terms.

  • What if I want to sell but stay on for a while?

We structure post-sale employment agreements that give you flexibility, whether you want a short transition or a long-term role.

  • How do I know what my practice is worth?

While we don’t perform formal valuations, we help you find an industry-specific business broker or valuation expert to help you understand your practice’s market value and negotiate accordingly.

  • What should I expect during the practice sale process?

Expect multiple stages: preparation,  offer negotiation, contract drafting, lease assignment assistance, and closing — and we’ll guide you through each one.
